Drama by design by Valerie Easton (appeared in the Seattle Times)
This is exactly how I've been feeling about my garden-- nice, but where's the drama? I used inexpensive spray paint to add some drama. See some other ways in this article and in the referenced book, Shocking Beauty.

Some good plant deals around town
- 6-pack perennials at Capital (Sunrise)
- 1/2 flats of pansies at Costco (only $7.99)
- Costco bulbs (couldn't find a price, but they have some really pretty varieties in bags of 50+. If it's Costco, it's usually a good deal).
- Fall trees: P.O.W. Nursery

Latest plant aquisitions
Took a trip to Capital (Sunrise) and Windmill on Sunday... In addition to pea seeds and lettuce, I scored some fun color.
Gaillardia 'Summer Kiss' (interesting shade of orangey yellow)
'Sunsatia Raspberry' Nemesia (hot pink and orange)
'Soprano Purple' Osteospermum (dark bluish purple, not reddish like in the linked photo)
'Sweet Caroline Bronze' Sweet potato vine (Ipomoea)
'Mango Meadowbrite' Echinacea (a fabulous mango color)
'Double Azalea Pink' Snapdragon (too fun to resist)
'George Davidson' Crocosmia (canary yellow)
etc.

No wonder they keep this stuff locked behind bars
Spray painting garden accessories is addicting!
It all started with an innocent looking can of Apple Green. Apple green quickly became the gateway to red and purple. Now I'm feeling the urge for yellow, pink and lavender... and perhaps periwinkle. I know I can quit any time I want, so there's really not a problem, right?

Would somebody pinch me?
I always said if I won the lottery, I'd use the money to buy Sacramento a friggin' world class botanical garden. Looks like I'll be able to spend my winnings all on myself now.

Hear, hear!
A letter in today's Sacramento Bee Home and Garden section...
"To avoid confusion for your readers, and let's be honest now, shouldn't the "Home and Garden" section be the "Home and, oh yeah, Garden" section?" - Richard Alcauskas, Davis

Seeing green
A can of Apple Green paint and a few new plants adds new life to my chair planter.
Creeping Jenny planter
I decided to nest these apple green pots from Home Depot.
Found this super-cool wavy trellis at Lowe's... and painted it green. I'll give it another coat before planting a vine on it.
